Janet Littlewood
MA PhD BVSc (Hons) DVR DVD MRCVSJanet Littlewood graduated from the University of Bristol Veterinary School, with Honours, in 1977 and was awarded prizes for the highest marks in the oral and practical parts of the veterinary surgery and the small animal surgery parts of the final examination, and the prize for the highest aggregate of marks in professional degree examinations during the course.
She was recipient of the RCVS Lawson, Walley and Williams prize in the national written examination open to final year veterinary students. She then undertook an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. She returned to the UK and spent two years in small animal practice before becoming and assistant physician in small animal medicine at the University of Cambridge. She successfully attained the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Radiology during this period, and then spent four years studying for a PhD in coagulation disorders. This was followed by 12 years at the Animal Health Trust as head of the dermatology service, during which time she completed her RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Dermatology, followed by achieving RCVS Recognised Specialist status.
For the past 20 years she has been running her own referral business, which included 5 years at Dick White Referrals. She recently spent six months sabbatical in Australia working at Animal Dermatology Clinics, Perth WA and at the University of Murdoch. Janet was involved in setting up the dermatology course at the University of Nottingham, as well as teaching veterinary students at the University of Cambridge. She has enjoyed training and mentoring residents and candidates for post-graduate qualifications during her career. She has authored or co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to 15 textbooks. She has lectured widely at national and international meetings and is renowned for her enthusiasm for her subject.
